PSIA and AASI Ski Instructor Certification Exam Reliability Study
This independent research project collects structured, anonymized data from ski and snowboard instructors who have completed a PSIA or AASI certification exam — whether they passed or failed. The goal is to evaluate the reliability, consistency, and repeatability of applied exam standards across all disciplines and credential levels.
Why study PSIA exam reliability?
Concerns about PSIA exam reliability and fairness have been raised within the ski instruction community for years. Candidates who fail a PSIA L2 or L3 exam — or who pass with one examiner but not another — often question whether outcomes reflect consistent application of rubric standards or vary significantly by examiner, division, and conditions.
Who should submit data?
Anyone who has taken a PSIA Alpine, AASI Snowboard, Freestyle, Telemark, or Adaptive certification exam during the 2024–2025 or 2025–2026 season is encouraged to submit — regardless of whether the outcome was a pass, fail, or partial pass.
